Pull-request previews
Give each eligible pull request its own temporary application and address before the change reaches production.
Create a preview
- Open a pull request from a branch in the same repository into the application's production branch.
- The managed GitHub workflow builds the pull request with the preview-only deployment credential.
- RustaBase creates or updates one preview for that pull-request number.
- Open the address from the GitHub pull-request comment or the Previews tab.
- Push more commits to update the same preview.
Separation from production
- A preview credential cannot publish the production application or read production-only settings.
- Pull requests from forks are excluded because their code must not receive deployment credentials.
- Preview settings are managed on the production application and inherited by its previews.
- The number of open previews may be limited by the workspace plan.
Sleep and cleanup
A preview with no visits for one hour can stop using compute while keeping its address, release, and settings. The next visit starts the kept release and refreshes when it is ready; no rebuild is required. Closing or merging the pull request removes the preview.
Production applications do not use the preview sleep behavior.
