Operations

Backups

Keep copies of your Project's data, on a schedule or by hand, and restore any of them in a few clicks.

Turn on automatic backups

  1. Open your Project and select Database Backup.
  2. In Backup options, turn on Enable automatic backups.
  3. Pick a preset or type your own cron expression.
  4. Set Automatic copies to keep (3 by default). Older copies are removed automatically.
  5. Save. The Automatic backups card shows the schedule, destination, copies kept, and last run.

Create a backup now

Under Create a backup, optionally give it a name, such as before-migration, and create it. Always do this before a big change, an import, or a restore.

Restore a backup

  1. Create a fresh backup first, in case you need today's data later.
  2. Find the copy in Stored backups.
  3. Select Restore backup and confirm.
  4. Wait until the Project is healthy again.
  5. Check that sign-in, reads, writes, and files work in your app.

A restore replaces the Project's current data with the backup. Anything written after that backup was made is lost.

Download and upload

Download any stored backup to keep your own off-site copy. You can also upload an existing backup archive to restore from it.

Good practice

  • Run automatic backups at least daily for production Projects.
  • Keep a downloaded copy somewhere outside RustaBase.
  • Practice a restore on a test Project before you ever need one for real.
